Bangladesh’s general point-to-point inflation rate eased slightly in January, hitting 9.94 per cent—down from 10.89 per cent in December last year, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). The decline was primarily driven by a drop in food inflation.

The non-food inflation rate showed a slight increase, reaching 9.32 per cent in January—up from 9.26 per cent in December 2024.

The point-to-point inflation rate declined last month both in urban and rural areas. In rural areas, it was 10.18 per cent—a drop from 11.09 per cent in December. The non-food inflation rate in rural areas increased to 9.77 per cent in January—up from 9.65 per cent in December 2024, domestic media outlets reported.

On the other hand, the point-to-point inflation rate in urban areas in January was 9.89 per cent; it was 10.84 per cent in December. The non-food inflation rate in urban areas in January was 9.25 per cent; it was 9.17 per cent in December.
