Inflation has hovered above 8 per cent for over three years since August 2022.
Both food inflation and non-food inflation increased in September. Non-food inflation stood at 8.98 per cent in September, a marginal increase from 8.9 per cent the previous month. In September 2024, non-food inflation was 9.5 per cent.
Rural inflation rose to 8.47 per cent in September, up from 8.39 per cent in the previous month. In September 2024, rural inflation was 10.15 per cent. In rural areas, non-food inflation rose from 9.28 per cent in August to 9.40 per cent in September.
In urban areas, overall inflation in September was 8.28 per cent, slightly higher than 8.24 per cent in August. Non-food inflation in urban areas edged up from 8.49 per cent to 8.51 per cent, according to domestic media outlets.
The general wage growth rate fell to 8.02 per cent in September, down from 8.15 per cent in August. In September last year, the wage growth rate was 8.01 per cent.
