Spain’s seasonal- and calendar-adjusted general retail trade index (RTI) at constant prices grew at 2.2 per cent year on year (YoY) in January this year—1.8 points lower than the one registered in December, according to provisional official data.

It fell by 1.4 per cent month on month (MoM) in January—2.9 points lower than the previous month’s figure.

The original RTI series at constant prices grew at 2.2 per cent YoY in the month—1.4 points below the rate of the previous month.

All distribution classes showed negative MoM rates, except for large chain stores, which remained unchanged. Department stores registered the greatest MoM decrease of 1.7 per cent, an official release said.

Employment in the country’s retail trade rose by 1.4 per cent YoY in January. This rate was four-tenths below that recorded in December.
