The UK consumer price index (CPI) rose by 3.8 per cent in the 12 months to August 2025, unchanged from July, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

On a monthly basis, CPI rose by 0.3 per cent in the month, the same rate as in August 2024.

Core CPI (excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) rose by 3.6 per cent in the 12 months to August 2025, down from a 3.8-per cent year-on-year (YoY) rise in the 12 months to July. The CPI goods annual rate rose slightly from 2.7 per cent to 2.8 per cent.

The CPI for clothing and footwear rose by 0.2 per cent YoY in August, compared to 0.3-per cent YoY rise in July. It rose by 1 per cent month on month in August, unchanged from the July figure.
