UK clothing-footwear CPI up 0.8% MoM in May 2025

The UK consumer price index (CPI) rose by 3.4 per cent year on year (YoY) in May this year compared with a 3.5-per cent YoY rise in April, according to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

It rose by 0.2 per cent month on month (MoM) in May 2025 compared with a 0.3-per cent MoM increase in May 2024.

Core CPI (excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco) rose by 3.5 per cent in the 12 months to May 2025, down from 3.8 per cent in the 12 months to April. The CPI goods annual rate rose from 1.7 per cent to 2 per cent during the period.

The CPI for clothing and footwear in the country dropped by 0.3 per cent YoY and increased by 0.8 per cent MoM in May this year.
