US retail inventories rose by 0.3 per cent in January this year over the figure in the previous month, according to the commerce department's Census Bureau data released recently. Retail inventories during the month were up by 12 per cent over the figure in the same month last year.The figure, which measures the change in the total value of goods held in inventory by the nation's retailers, was estimated at $743.1 billion, according to advanced figures.
Retail inventories in December were revised down to a gain of 0.4 per cent from a rise of 0.7 per cent, the Bureau said in a statement.
