US specialty retailer Home Depot posts Q2 sales of $41 bn

Second quarter (Q2) sales at The Home Depot, a US-based world's largest home improvement retailer, increased 8.1 per cent to $41.1 billion compared to $38.0 billion in the same period of FY20. Net earnings for Q2 ended on August 1, 2021, grew to $4.8 billion (Q2 FY20: $4.3 billion), while operating income improved to $6.6 billion ($6.0 billion).
 
“I am very proud of our associates, who continue to demonstrate a relentless focus on serving our customers,” Craig Menear, chairman and CEO at Home Depot, said in a press release. “As a result of their efforts, we achieved a milestone of over $40 billion in quarterly sales for the first time in company history.”
 
Gross profit during the second quarter rose to $13.6 billion ($12.9 billion), while total operating expenses were $7.0 billion ($6.8 billion).
 
At the end of Q2 FY21, the company operated a total of 2,298 Home Depot retail stores in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, Guam, 10 Canadian provinces and Mexico.
