Assam govt will plant trees to grow eri & muga cocoons

Assam government is committed to provide more exposure to its eri, muga and other silk products and the outreach mission will work towards promoting silk products, according to media reports.

Trees are being planted so that muga cocoons can grow on them, said Ranjit Dutta, Assam handloom and sericulture minister. He also said that yarn banks have already been established in 9 districts in the state and the rest of the districts will be covered soon.

Dutta added that silk entrepreneurs will receive government’s support. A handloom park is also slated to come up in the Nagaon district that will benefit over 20,000 people. He will also appoint a brand ambassador soon to promote the state’s silk products. (KD)
