AGRESTAL, an export-oriented organic firm in Himachal Pradesh, is expected to set up a silk processing centre in Assam through a partnership with the Indian government. The centre will produce and export Eri silk as organic silk. The company has visited Assam and held discussions with state government officials, field level functionaries and sericulturists.

This information was shared by textiles minister Smriti Irani in a written reply in parliament upper house recently.

The central government has also sanctioned two Eri spun silk mills under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) at a total project cost of ₹43.06 crore.
