The projects will benefit around 20,000 cocoon growers, other ancillary workers and more than 50,000 shepherds in Kashmir, according to an official press release from the state government.
Silk production at the Raj Bagh factory is expected to rise from 50,000 to 5,00,000 metres per year after the project is completed. Most of the locally-produced silk cocoon will also be procured for this factory, which will stabilise cocoon prices and may result in more cocoon production.
While Rs 11.74 crore will be spent on the modernisation of the Bemina mills, the Raj Bagh factory will receive Rs 23.54 crore. (DS)
