Kancheepuram Silk Manufacturer's Association on Tuesday adopted a resolution to have a separate trade mark and certification for Kancheepuram silk sarees.
They said other types of sarees were being sold off as Kancheepuram silk sarees. This was resulting in a loss for the sellers of the original sarees
The consumers would be able to easily distinguish pure Kancheepuram silk from the fake brands in the market, if the originals are trade marked. This would increase confidence among buyers, and the sales would boost, they said.
They also passed a resolution to form a committee of silk cooperatives and private manufacturing companies, having power to take action against malpractices.
The government and people must take this fact into account that the silk industry provides employment to thousands of people and should extend a helping hand for the betterment of their future.
