China's silk export volume decreases in Jan-April'13

China exported 5,000 tons of silk from January to April 2013, which is a decrease of 1.75 percent year-on-year. The average price was US$ 43.7/kg, up 15.33 percent year-on-year, according to Customs Statistics.
 
During the four-month period, India was the top importer of Chinese silk, accounting for 30.23 percent of all Chinese silk exports. Pakistan, Italy, Japan and Vietnam were the other top importers of Chinese silk, accounting for 13.99 percent, 11.98 percent, 11.82 percent and 5.66 percent share, respectively.
 
From January to April 2013, the volume of Chinese silk exports to Italy increased by 46.19 percent year-on-year, while that to Vietnam and Japan rose by 30.96 percent y-o-y and 2.11 percent y-o-y, respectively.
 
However, the volume of Chinese silk exports to India and Pakistan declined by 5.02 percent y-o-y and 20.91 percent y-o-y, respectively, during the period under review.
 
Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces turned out to be the major exporters of silk during the period under consideration, accounting for 28.14 percent and 28.1 percent share, respectively. Shandong, Guangdong and Sichuan bagged share of 10.65 percent, 9.69 percent and 7.79 percent, respectively.
 
In April 2013, China exported 1,196.67 tons of silk, showing a decrease of 3.86 percent y-o-y. However, the exports increased in terms of value to US$ 53.683 million, up 17.48 percent y-o-y. This was due to a 22.2 percent y-o-y rise in average price, which surged to US$ 44.9/kg.
