While the hot summer has set in, sale of thin, light silk with other smooth fabric material blends has begun flooding local markets in the east.

Although the price is very high, silk fabrics like habutai, crepe satin plain, douppioni taffeta and crepe suzette are among the most popular varieties in the markets.

Habutai, a 100 percent silk fabric, feels soft and carries a shining effect. It is mainly used to make ladies' shirts, skirts and children clothing priced at about RMB28, a metre.

Crepe satin plain is also 100 percent silk with qualities like sheen and softness. Available at RMB45 a metre, it is used in top-grade pyjamas.

Douppioni taffeta carries a somewhat hard 'feel,' so, it is mainly used to make robes and household decoration. It is sold at around RMB23, a meter.

Wrinkly and translucent crepe suzette is more comfortable, and hence, used to produce leisure summer clothing and is priced at about RMB20 per meter.
