Silk products exports from Thailand are likely to fetch turnover of one billion Baht this year, forecast industry sources.

In terms of year-on-year exports, silk industry would record 13 to 15 percent rise largely due to Government sops, sources added.

In the first four months of 2006, total revenues earned through silk products exports reached 314 million Baht, up 14.3 percent over same period, 2005.

Figures of 2002 and 2003 are 734.2 million Baht and 880.8 million Baht respectively.

At present, Thailand Government has granted huge supports to silk industry by inviting international experts to help local producers improve silk quality.

Thailand has been shipping silk products to several traditional markets including US, EU and Japan. But now, this list is enlarged with new export destinations like Australia, Eastern Europe and Middle East.
