Domestic silk fabric prices shoot up

08 Aug '06
1 min read

Domestic silk fabric prices have gone up by 20 percent because of the rise in prices of cocoon silk, a raw material used for silk fabric.

For example, the price of 3A cocoon silk was RMB170,000 per ton last year and has reached RMB230,000, an increase of 30 percent.

Due to increase in exports and domestic sales, trade imbalance has been created as the demand has exceeded the supply.

The experts have suggested that domestic silk units should create their own brands for tapping the growing local markets.
