In recent years, Guangxi Province has greatly developed the silkworm cocoon industry. In 2006 alone, the total output of silkworm cocoon was 0.186 million tons, accounting for around 30 percent of China's total output.

Recently, around 22 peasants of Yunbiao town succeeded in growing natural color silkworm cocoon. They produced 1,232 kg of natural color silkworm cocoon, whose selling price is pegged at 19.2 yuan per kg compared to common silkworm cocoon that is sold at 16 yuan per kg.

Add to this the popularity of white silk, which is produced by Guihua Cocoon & Silk Co based in Guangxi Province's Heng County. The white silk produced here was appraised as 5A-level products that cost 5,000 yuan per ton more than 3A-level white silk. This is a feat for Chinese silk enterprises as the country has never before produced 5A-level products.

Even the mulberry area in Guangxi Province has increased from 0.3 million mu in 2003 to 1.8 million mu in 2006. It is also learned that the government of Nanning city, the capital of Guangxi province, has decided to invest 9 million yuan in silkworm cocoon industry in 2007. Of this, around 1.15 million yuan will be used in technological and scientific development of silkworm cocoon industry.
