The decrease in the output of silk raw materials in India as well as shortage of stored silk led to a rise in China's export of real silk products to India, which went up 11 percent in the first half of this year.
China Customs statistics state that in the first half of 2007, China exported US $181 million worth of real silk products to India, up 11.23 percent than the same period last year. Chinese silk products occupied 10.98 percent of the Indian silk market.
Of the total export of silk raw materials, the export quantity of silk thread products was 4,593 tons. On the other hand, export value of silk fabric was $180 million and constituted 99.72 percent of the total export value.
India remains the biggest export market of Chinese silk thread products. Its export quantity went up 38.96 percent this year, compared to last year's 30.02 percent. From 30.82 percent in 2006, the export value of silk thread products went up 38.11 percent in first half of 2007.
