The Madhya Pradesh Silk Federation is linking tourism and the burgeoning sericulture industry in the state in a bid to bring stakeholders from the silk industry closer to the market and improve prospects of the industry in the state.

As a part of this initiative, it has set up showrooms at its two major silk rearing farms called 'Prakrit', which means derived from nature and which will showcase silk products to tourists and will also enable the tourist or buyers to view the entire silk production process.

Currently the federation operates two showrooms; one in Malakhedi, which is about 75 Km from Bhopal and in Pachmarhi, which is a tourist destination. More outlets are planned to be set up at Suktawa, Matkuli and Harrai.

These showrooms will display fabrics and clothing made from silk fibre produced in India. In the last few years, Madhya Pradesh has increased its silk output drastically and moved up the pecking order in production amongst silk producing states of India.
