A National Silk Technology Mission is expected to start at the beginning of the Eleventh Five Year Plan, informed an official from Textiles Ministry.
The plan drafted by Central Silk Board (CSB) for establishing the Mission required reconsideration and had been sent back to the Board for redrafting, stated B P Singh, Joint Secretary, Textile Ministry.
The Ministry would examine draft before Planning Commission and other Central Ministries approved. The final draft will be prepared previous to the Eleventh Five Year Plan, Singh added.
Government would launch a subsidy system for silk reelers, who are involved in reeling in a big way using machineries imported from Japan, informed Singh.
Singh also added that government could offer silk reelers a subsidy to the considerable sum of 25 percent to buy machinery.
Further he said that the more number of reeling machines, the more production of cocoons possible, thus country's silk production, currently hovering around 17000 tons, could be boosted.
The CSB was in the course of recognizing potential entrepreneurs who could start investment in purchasing reeling machineries from China.
