EU imposes anti-dumping duties on choline chloride from China

The European Commission has imposed anti-dumping measures on imports of choline chloride from the People’s Republic of China, with definitive duties ranging from 90 per cent to 115.9 per cent. The decision follows a 14-month investigation that identified unfair trade practices.

The measures aim to restore fair competition in the EU market between imported Chinese choline chloride and domestically produced material. The EU choline chloride market is valued at about €84 million (~$99.11 million), the European Commission said in a release.

Choline chloride is primarily used as an additive in animal and pet feed, including for poultry, pigs, rabbits and horses. It is also used in baby formula, prenatal dietary supplements and other nutraceutical products for human consumption, as well as a clay stabiliser in drilling fluids for the oil and gas industry.

The EU-based choline chloride industry employs around 160–175 people, with production facilities located in Belgium, Italy and Spain.
