Mitsubishi Chemical Group has decided to increase its production capacity for synthetic silica powder at the Kyushu-Fukuoka Plant. Operations are scheduled to start in September 2028.
The Product is a synthetic silica powder characterised by its ultra-high purity and is employed as a raw material for quartz crucibles used in the production of semiconductor silicon, as well as high-purity quartz components essential for semiconductor fabrication equipment. The quartz crucible surface must maintain exceptional purity, particularly during the ingot manufacturing process, to minimise impurities that could compromise wafer quality.
The Product boasts high competitiveness in this application by achieving the world's highest level of purity for sand-type silica using manufacturing technology cultivated over many years, the company said in a press release.
The company’s investment in expanding this capacity reflects the rising global demand driven by the electronics and semiconductor industries. With the rapid adoption of 5G technology, electric vehicles, and advanced computing systems, Mitsubishi aims to solidify its position as a critical supplier for the technology-driven economy.
