China's installed solar power capacity up 44.4% YoY in Jan-Aug 2023

China’s installed solar power capacity surged by 44.4 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in the first eight months of 2023, reaching 510 million kilowatts, according to a recent update from the National Energy Administration (NEA). The country’s wind power also saw a significant boost, with a 14.8 per cent yearly rise, equating to roughly 400 million kilowatts.

Overall, by the end of August, the total installed power generation capacity touched 2.76 billion kilowatts, reflecting an 11.9 per cent growth compared to the same period last year.

Investments from China's major power companies mirrored this upward trend, with an astounding 82.7 per cent YoY increase in solar power projects, equating to 187.3 billion yuan (approximately $26.11 billion). Furthermore, the nuclear and wind power sectors attracted investments of 52.2 billion yuan and 114.9 billion yuan, registering YoY surges of 56.9 per cent and 38.7 per cent, respectively, as per NEA.
