E-Toile SA, a leading apparel manufacturing facility based in Antananarivo, has become the first OEKO-TEX STeP certified facility in Madagascar. It operates in the cut and sew apparel manufacturing industry, specialising in producing protective workwear garments.

As a subsidiary of the Alsico Group, E-Toile SA integrates ecological, social, and economic considerations into its operations. "We want to contribute to an economy that respects the planet's boundaries and guarantees basic social rights," said a company representative from E-Toile.

The OEKO-TEX STeP certification underscores the company’s dedication to environmental responsibility and fair working conditions. The certification promotes efficient resource use, chemical management, and continuous improvement in production processes. "Being OEKO-TEX STeP certified strengthens our position as a sustainable producer. But we still need support from TESTEX / OEKO-TEX to structure our communication on this matter effectively," the company representative explained.

E-Toile SA has integrated various innovative technologies to enhance efficiency and sustainability. These include the latest energy-efficient sewing machines equipped with LED lights, a fully LED-lit factory, installation of solar panels and batteries to achieve energy independence, and the use of OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 recyclable fabrics, supporting the circular economy.

Achieving OEKO-TEX STeP certification came with significant challenges, particularly in environmental and quality management. However, through the audit process, support from the Alsico Group, and a commitment to continuous improvement, the company successfully navigated these obstacles.

Management has noted clear improvements in productivity and overall quality since adopting the OEKO-TEX STeP system. "Our continuous improvement strategy has contributed to a higher quality score," E-Toile shared in a press release.

Comparing OEKO-TEX STeP to other industry certifications, the company highlighted its comprehensive approach. This certification integrates multiple modules, eliminating the need for separate certifications such as various ISO standards, the release stated.

Moving forward, E-Toile SA aims to maintain and enhance its scores across all modules, with a significant focus on improving the most challenging ones.

E-Toile SA also leveraged the OEKO-TEX Impact Calculator during the certification process. It provided the company with a clear picture of where it needs to intensify its efforts, particularly in reducing gas emissions, the company stated.
