Utagi highlighted the dilemma businesses encounter, particularly those with a sustainability focus. “Businesses in the baby care sector, particularly those emphasising sustainability, face significant hurdles and one of the foremost challenges is the prevailing price sensitivity among consumers. With cheaper, non-sustainable options widely available, convincing customers to invest in more eco-friendly alternatives can be daunting, she told F2F.
However, Utagi also noted the growing global environmental awareness as a significant opportunity for eco-conscious brands. Obtaining certifications and labels can foster trust, and innovation in sustainable materials and production can drive cost efficiencies.
Regarding technological advancements, Utagi stated, “The baby garment industry is experiencing significant advancements, largely driven by the growing focus on sustainability and enhanced usability.” The industry is seeing a shift towards eco-friendly materials like organic cotton and bamboo, and design features are evolving to prioritise functionality and convenience.
