In the 46th Annual General Meeting (AGM), Reliance Industries Limited's (RIL) chairman and managing director, Mukesh D Ambani, announced a comprehensive plan to transition the company’s Oil-to-Chemicals (O2C) business into a sustainable, green, circular, and consumer-integrated enterprise.

Ambani revealed three key pillars guiding this ambitious transition. First, the company aims to achieve Net Carbon Zero by 2035. To this end, RIL is intensifying its efforts in manufacturing renewable energy platforms like solar, wind, batteries, hydrogen, and bio-energy. The objective is to generate round-the-clock electricity that will not only meet captive requirements but also address the growing energy needs of Indian consumers.

Secondly, RIL is hastening its circularity and consumer-integration initiatives. This includes scaling up chemical recycling technology to produce green, application-specific products, aimed at capturing high-value market segments.

Finally, Ambani highlighted the ongoing transformations at RIL's Jamnagar refinery, which will serve as a 'Chemicals and Materials Feedstock Production' engine. As a part of this, they have already begun producing highly specialised Halo-Butyl Rubber grades and are in the process of commissioning a new Purified Isophthalic Acid plant.

In addition to these pillars, RIL is making strides in the carbon fibre industry with the establishment of India's first Carbon Fibre facility in Hazira, Gujarat. "Our target is to be among the top three players globally in the Carbon Fibre and Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic composites," Ambani added.
