Oeko-Tex, an independent textile testing institute working for the enhanced product safety and sustainable production in the textile value chain, has joined the Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals (ZDHC) programme. Oeko-Tex also looks forward to collaborate with other leading brands and contributors that are members of the ZDHC programme.

Since last 25 years, Oeko-Tex has been helping companies to produce safer textiles and operate more sustainably. Oeko-Tex Standard 100 is the global benchmark for textile products that have been tested to be free from harmful levels of more than 300 concerning chemicals. The latest annual update to the Standard 100, announced recently, includes changes that fully support the ZDHC goals. ZDHC programme works towards elimination of usage of hazardous chemicals in the global textile and footwear value chain.

“Oeko-Tex has long been committed to helping companies reduce the use of toxic chemicals throughout their supply chains,” said Georg Dieners, Oeko-Tex general secretary. “We look forward to engage actively with the ZDHC and its other members to achieve the milestones set forth in the Joint Roadmap to eliminate hazardous chemicals from the supply chain by 2020.” (RR)
