The Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) will release this year a version of the Higg Facility Social Labour Module, a Higg Index tool to assess a factory's workforce standards, its community engagement and its external engagement on social and labour issues with other facilities or organisations. SAC’s Higg Index is a supply chain measurement suite of tools.

Headquartered in San Francisco, SAC is an alliance of apparel, footwear and textiles industry players worldwide.

In an interview to Fibre2Fashion, SAC CEO Jason Kibbey said the SAC and the Amsterdam-based Social & Labour Convergence Project (SLCP) will collaborate on successfully developing the first globally-recognised tool that assesses social and labour impacts in a standardised way.

SAC’s tools measure environmental and social and labour impacts across the supply chain and help the industry address inefficiencies, resolve damaging practices and achieve the environmental and social transparency.

Kibbey said any organisation in the apparel, footwear and textiles sector, regardless of size, can use the Higg Index. (DS)
