Johns Manville (JM), a market-leading manufacturer of Continuous Filament Glass Fiber (CFGF) products and nonwovens, announced it has updated its food contact declarations to include innovative CFGF chopped strands in compliance with changes to EU regulation 10/2011 (plastics regulation). This update was completed well before the transitional period ends on December 31, 2015.

JM has developed a broad range of performance CFGF grades for a large range of engineered thermoplastics, including ThermoFlow674 chopped strands designed for PA and high-heat polymer reinforcements, ThermoFlow636 for PP, and ThermoFlow601 for PBT/PET intended to come into contact with food

PBT and PP reinforcement, ThermoFlow601 and ThermoFlow636 respectively, have also passed the French drinking water test.

In addition, Johns Manville has commercialized glass reinforcements used in LFT-PP under the brand StarRov LFT PLUS 490 direct roving for polypropylene engineered thermoplastics intended to come into contact with food.

Enno Henze, senior vice president Engineered Products Europe/Asia, said the developments are a “clear demonstration” of the firm’s commitment to the engineered thermoplastic market and further strengthens JM’s balanced product portfolio in glass chopped strands, direct rovings and assembled rovings.
