“We should align with [the] best standards in textile manufacturing. There should be no difference in quality of textile meant for international and domestic consumers,” he was quoted as saying in an official release.
He suggested public-private participation in the use of government funds in research and development in technical textiles.
The technical textiles sector in India has gained momentum in past five years, growing now at 8 per cent per annum. The aim is to hasten this growth to 15-20 per cent range during the next five years, he said.
India’s share in the global technical textile market of $250 billion is $19 billion. He said that in addition to the growth in statistical terms, India will direct the growth towards high technology and indigenous products.
The National Technical Textiles Mission was launched in February last year to make India self-reliant in that sector, he added.
