Road engineers working on repairing the damaged portions of the national highway in the Karimganj district of Assam, India are using geotextiles to repair the damaged highway.

“On a pilot basis, the state-owned National Textiles Corporation Limited (NTCL) has introduced geotextiles for the construction of roads in unstable areas which will provide more stability to the roads,” media reports said.

Geotextile products like geo-grids, geo-nets and geo-tubes are being used, which have the ability to reinforce, protect, filter, separate or drain, when used with soil.

And although, construction cost initially rises by 10-15 per cent, the roads do not require repair or maintenance for the first six to seven years. (AR)
