Burlington WorldWide, a business unit of International Textile Group, will exclusively introduce a new clothing technology, processed by TrapTek , a Colorado company.
Method called TRAPTEK uses the carbon from the coconuts to make the fabric moisture wicking, odor absorbing and UV-protective.
Coconut husks are heated to 1600 degrees and the activated carbon, which is also used in water and air filters, is infused into yarn.
The carbon particles create a spongy surface that traps odor, blocks rays and causes sweat to evaporate swiftly.
While Burlington WorldWide's owns rights to distribute only woven materials, another company has the rights to license knit fabrics.
TRAPTEK outfits such as sportswear and slacks are expected to be in the markets by 2007.
TRAPTEK also will be used with some of the company's other fabric technologies, such as Bio-guard.
