Sasol also announced late last year that well known businesswomen Hixonia Nyasulu would join the Sasol board as a non-executive director on 1 June 2006. As a result, the Sasol Limited board will comprise 15 directors from 1 June 2006. Two are international directors: Anshu Jain and Juergen Schrempp.
Of the 13 South African directors, seven (54%) are black and eight (62%) are from the designated groups. In addition to the five Sasol executive directors, the board will comprise Pieter Cox (non-executive chairman), Elisabeth Bradley, Warren Clewlow, Brian Connellan, Sam Montsi, Mandla Gantsho and Hixonia Nyasulu as non-executive directors.
Ramon was until recently the chief executive of Johnnic Holdings Limited. She joined the Johnnic group in 1995 where she held several senior positions including acting chief operating officer and financial director. Ramon started her career with Coopers & Lybrand and progressed to audit manager at offices in South Africa and Italy. During this time she was, among other things, seconded to the Independent Electoral Commission as deputy finance director.
This foresight resulted in Sasol being positioned to commercialize its technology offshore as evidenced by the recent inauguration of the world's largest gas-to-liquid (GTL) plant in Qatar in a joint venture between Sasol and Qatar Petroleum, with further major investments in this and other locations likely to follow.
Sasol has also previously announced that it is far-advanced in negotiations potentially to construct coal-to-liquid ((CTL) facilities in China, also utilizing its technology.
