Ascend Performance Materials has extended force majeure on hexamethylene diamine (HMD) and all polymers, compounds and fibres. Ascend is a global premium provider of high-quality plastics, fibres and chemicals and is the world’s largest integrated producer of PA66 resin. It is exploring other options for procuring the necessary raw materials.

“Persistent fog followed by historic rainfall and flooding in the Tennessee River Valley restricted transportation along the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway. The US Army Corps of Engineers has closed locks along the waterway, thereby cutting off supply of a crucial raw material to an Ascend manufacturing facility,” the company said in a media statement.

“The company will allocate existing products as prescribed in its contracts and is working with affected customers to minimise the impact to their respective businesses,” the statement added.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Ascend has nine global locations, including five fully-integrated manufacturing facilities located in the southeastern US and an engineering plastics compounding facility in Europe, all dedicated to the innovation and safe production of nylon 6,6. (RKS)
