National Development and Reform Commission permitted Zhejiang Hualian Sanxin Petrochemical Co Ltd's purified terephthalic acid (PTA) project.
To be built at the cost of 1.977 bn yuan, this project will raise Zhejiang Hualian Sanxin's annual PTA output to two million tons, end of the next year.
With the newly added capacity, Zhejiang Hualian will turn out to be the biggest PTA producer in Asia.
PTA, or purified terephthalic acid, is the main raw material for manufacturing polyester, widely used in the textile industry.
The Department of Foreign Affairs of the NDRC is in charge of cooperation between the NDRC and international organizations, foreign government agencies and foreign institutions.
The Department is also responsible for assisting other departments to promote major international cooperative projects and carrying out studies on world economy and the day-to-day foreign affairs of the Commission.
