Benzene prices move up in contrast as holidays approach

Benzene is an intermediate used in the manufacture of plastics, drugs, dyes, detergents and insecticides.
Strong demand for benzene resulted in the firm seller bids supported by the optimistic upstream energy prices and healthy ethylene feedstock numbers.
Sources explained that though the trade did seem shrinking due to the Chinese Lunar holidays at the start of last week, this month, buyer's interest was re-generated by the weekend.
Prices of benzene, which on Monday last week were quoted at the US $755 per metric ton FOB levels, climbed to over $770 per metric ton, FOB this morning.
Contract for March has been pegged as high as $780 per metric ton FOB Korea levels.
Stable downstream Styrene monomer segment has also boosted the Asian benzene prices.
