Dec Chinese methanol prices marginally down from year ago

Methanol prices in China were assessed slightly down in December, 2012 as compared to the same period of the previous year.
 
Prices were hovering around US$ 355-375/ton CFR China in December 2011 whereas prices were assessed in the range of US$ 355-360/ton in December 2012.
 
Prices witnessed 1% to 3% increase in the first quarter of 2012 and 1% to 6.5% hike in Q2, due to strong support from the downstream market. However, prices started declining in the third quarter and went down by 1.5% to 2.5% m-o-m.
 
Prices showed mixed trend in the fourth quarter of the year and increased by around 1.4% initially, were stable in the mid of the quarter and went down by similar percentages in December 2012.
