The US Commercial Service is preparing chemicals exporters to Europe – especially small and mid-sized companies – to start getting ready for REACH, a new European Union regulation requiring the registration, evaluation and authorization of approximately 30,000 chemical substances before they can be brought to market.
REACH is still in draft form, but its adoption and entry into force is expected for the end of 2006 / early 2007. The Commercial Service REACH report explains how U.S. exporters can comply ... and the Commercial Service REACH Web site is tracking the regulation's finalization.
REACH is a major reform of EU chemicals policy. REACH will affect all global supply chains that produce and use chemicals. U.S. exporters to Europe should carefully consider this proposed piece of EU environmental legislation.
REACH adoption is imminent. REACH could become law in the 25 Member States of the EU as early as 2007. It is time to prepare for REACH!
This webpage has been set up for U.S. exporters to Europe, particularly for SMEs, to inform them about requirements under REACH and to help them prepare for compliance. This webpage includes official EU documents, U.S. government reports and provides links to other useful sources of information. It also includes a list of business service providers offering consulting or legal advice for REACH compliance.
The details of the REACH Regulation are still being negotiated within the European Institutions (including the Commission, Council and Parliament). New information will be posted as REACH is finalized and implemented.
