During the first quarter of 2006 crude oil production averaged 3,345 Mbd, 1 percent higher than the 3,316 Mbd average for the first quarter of 2005. Despite the 1 percent decrease in heavy crude oil production, light and extra-light crude oil production increased 2 percent and 38 percent, respectively.

Petrochemicals exports decreased by 6 percent, or 13 Mt, totaling 206 Mt for the quarter. This was attributable to higher availability of ethane derivatives, propane and aromatics.
