Benzene imports to reach 3.8 M tons/yr by end-2006

1 min read
Rapidly developing Chinese textile industry has significant shortfall in the supply of raw materials like P-xylene and Benzene.
In 2005, the production of pure benzene was around 3.061 M tons, not at all close to meet the industry requirement of 8.0 M tons.
Imports started to register sharp growth since 2003, when the exports were much higher.
Last year, the country imported 255,000 tons of benzene to fulfill the ever-rising demand.
Annual production capacity for pure benzene in China is expected to reach 3.8 M tons by the end of 2006.
