To balance the sudden hike in upstream materials like purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and paraxylene (PX), the manufacturers have decided to increase the chemical fibre prices as well.

The wholesale prices are expected to go up 10 percent to NT $5, from September 1, 2006 onwards.

September PX contract export price has surged to US $230 per metric ton, pushing up the PTA prices to $100 per metric ton.

Meanwhile, rising CPL prices have perked up the Nylon product prices to around $3-5 per metric ton by September.

Integrated producers of chemical fibers recently saw production capacity slip to between 50-70 percent.

In terms of specific items of chemical fibers, production for POY has declined to 77,000 metric tons in July from 89,000 metric tons posted in May.

In July, chemical-fiber producers like Far Eastern Textile Corp, Shinkong Synthetic Fiber Corp and Tainan Spinning Co, recorded a 10 percent drop in the monthly output.
