Tirupur dying units on indefinite strike

As the Dyers Association of Tirupur (DAT) has not received any relief on the fine of six paise a litre for effluent treatment plants (ETP), nearly 600 dyeing and bleaching units nearby Tirupur have stopped production from January first as announced earlier.

This action of DAT would lead to a loss of Rs35 crore a day for the industry. More than 20,000 people are employed in various capacities in the industry.

The Government needs to find a solution to this issue, as this indefinite strike would directly affect the Rs8,000 crore garment industry.

The related garment and textile industry and the town have not yet started feeling the pinch of the strike.
