Karur Textile Forum and Textile Manufacturer Exporters' Association joined hands with dyeing and bleaching units to support 'stop production' move on Tuesday.

Around 490 dyeing and bleaching units, eight Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) and 96 individual Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs), stopped working since Monday, April 2.

These associations charged that pollution control norms which are being implemented in Kurur district have raised the cost of effluent treatment as well as dyeing, bleaching charge.

They are also demanding removal of discrimination and difference in the application of these norms in various parts of the State which has put dyers and bleachers from the district in difficult position compared to Salem, Erode, Coimbatore, Namakkal and Madurai district businessmen.

Around Rs3,000 crore business in the textile town of Karur came to a halt with the strike by textile units.
