Mr. R S Sharma, Chairman – Petrotech Society and CMD, ONGC signed a Memorandum of Understanding with University of Alberta represented by Dr. Indira Samarasekera, President & Vice Chancellor, University of Alberta at New Delhi on 5th December 2007.
Under the MoU, the signatories will exchange academic information, conduct academic programs and synergize respective strengths to promote closer business and professional exchanges between the two bodies. Among other areas, specialized programs on Drilling as well as Clean Coal Technology have been identified.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. R S Sharma said that the collaborative projects between the Petrotech Society of India and the University of Alberta are aimed at meeting India's growing energy demands. On behalf of ONGC, Mr. Sharma reiterated ONGC's commitment to ensure energy security to India by looking for both conventional and non-conventional energy sources.
Dr. A K Balyan, Director (HR & Business Development) said, “We intend to leverage the innumerable opportunities cropping up while working together.”
Earlier, Dr. Indira Samarasekera, President & Vice Chancellor of University of Alberta briefed the dignitaries present about the pre-eminent position enjoyed by the University of Alberta in the broader disciplines and specialized domains of research and education under the umbrella of Hydrocarbon exploration and Energy Management.
