The German government wants to postpone voting on new EU chemicals legislation, claiming protracted government negotiations in Berlin have left no time for chancellor-designate Angela Merkel and her ministers to read the dossier.
Last week, the British EU presidency received a demand from the German ambassador to push back a decision on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization of Chemicals) tabled for 28 November, because voting would fall just a few days after the new government is sworn in.
