Viral Desai, CEO of the Surat based Zenitex, was recently invited as a panelist at the prestigious International Conference of the Society of Dyers and Colourists (SDC) held in Mumbai. The invitation extended to the young entrepreneur for such a significant event was indeed a moment of pride and motivation for businessmen from smaller cities like Surat.

At the event, Desai shared the stage with eminent designers like Archana Kochhar and Kanika Bawa. Other notable speakers and panellists at the conference included representatives of Birla Cellulose, GOTS, Arvind Mills, Zodiac Clothing Co, Archroma, Chemarc, Future Lifestyle Fashion Ltd, DyStar, Atul Ltd, Datacolor, Ramkumar Mills, and Jay Chemicals.

On a global level, the colouration industry has seen a slowdown. Industries involved in the colouration of plastics, textiles and leather are concerned about improving profitability. Brands are increasingly concerned with the environment impact of processing throughout their supply chains. Textile processing industries, in particular, are increasingly looking for products that are free of hazardous chemicals and colourant residues. At such a juncture, it becomes important to keep abreast with innovations in resource reduction, optimising resource utilisation, pollution control measures, and wastewater treatment / effluent stream / water reuse.

Moreover, pressure from regulatory bodies and the society is driving the industry towards ensuring zero impact on human health and the environment. “With this effort from SDC, we look forward to seeing a change coming in the industry which is beneficial for the present and future generations to come,” said Desai.

SDC is a UK based organisation dedicated to advancing the science and technology of colour worldwide. Its mission is to educate the changing world in the science of colour. (RKS)
