After a seven-year break, Apparel Industry Suppliers Exhibition (AISEX) began today in Sri Lanka's capital city of Colombo.

With an aim to bring all suppliers and service organisations under one roof, the three-day exhibition focuses on a wide range of textile machinery, accessories and services from many parts of the world.

The event is being organised by Lanka Exhibition and Conference Services Ltd (LECS) and supported and endorsed by the Sri Lanka Apparel Institute (SLAI), Joint Apparel Association Forum (JAAF), Sri Lanka Institute of Textile and Apparel, and the ministry of industry and commerce.

The organisers revived AISEX after seven years, following a visit by an EU delegation and the increased prospect of GSP Plus.

The apparel industry in Sri Lanka is witnessing growth and the country is among the favourite sourcing destinations for several companies owing to ethical manufacturing and best practices followed by the industry.

AISEX 2016 is expected to create new opportunities for suppliers, manufacturers and services related to the apparel industry. (RKS)
