New Zealand Wool, a consortium of leading wool producers, is looking to expand its presence in the Indian wool market. It has participated in Bharat Tex 2025 to engage with various stakeholders of the entire value chain. The consortium says that its showcase has captivated visitors at Bharat Tex 2025 due to its sustainable and high-quality woollen offerings.

Andy Caughey, head of Wool Impact, said that New Zealand Wool represents a fantastic fusion of retailers, designers, and textile manufacturers, highlighting the extensive work done by the government of New Zealand to help farmers and those associated with the wool industry in the nation go global.

Natalie Norman, the head of sales & success at The New Zealand Merino Company Limited, talked about the engagement of Indian stakeholders such as government bodies, bureaucrats, and officials to promote New Zealand wool in the booming ₹12,444 crore (~$1.435 billion) wool market of India. New Zealand, home to unparalleled scenic beauty, fosters world-class sheep farmers who produce a highly valuable and diverse range of end products such as home textiles, upholstery, and luxury fashion. Finer Merino wool is renowned for its unmatched breathability, ultrafine softness, and suitability for luxury and high-performance clothing, while coarser ones are suitable for carpets and strong wool categories.

Norman said, “India has surpassed China as the largest importer of Merino Wool from New Zealand for its superior quality and sustainability aspects which fascinates entrepreneurs for partnering with New Zealand Wool to get the unbridled marked of Indian woollens.” She also mentioned that the Indian textile market is immensely growing and heading towards a leading position in the global textile industry.

In addition, the ethically sourced process, biodegradability, and natural look address the rising concerns of environmental impact associated with synthetics, as wool is completely biodegradable and has almost zero impact in terms of waste and contamination.

In this direction, the New Zealand Farm Assurance Program and ZQ certification ascertain fair animal welfare standards and strict sustainability norms in wool farming in New Zealand, which also ensure fair and ethical practices and production.

Bharat Tex 2025 can transform eco-friendly textile solutions to pave the way for sustainable growth and innovation in this direction.
