Exceptional sustainable fashions will take center stage on the runway at Portland Fashion Week October 5-9.
“Portland's local designers are at the convergence of style and sustainability,” said Portland Mayor Sam Adams. “Portland Fashion Week showcases the creative edge that makes Portland extraordinary – and puts the city on the national stage.”
Among the nationally and internationally known designers showing at Portland Fashion Week will be Portland-area designers SETHAARON Henderson and Anna Cohen.
SETHAARON is the Season 7 winner of Lifetime's hit program “Project Runway” and has been featured in notable fashion magazines like Marie Claire. SETHAARON will be launching a fall/winter 2012 collection of sustainable apparel powered by EARTHTEC, a sustainable lifestyle apparel company on Friday, October 7. The line will feature stunning, sustainable fabrics made from recycled plastic bottles and will celebrate Oregon's history as the first state in the nation with a bottle recycling law.
Worldwide 150 billion plastic bottles are made every year. More than eighty percent are not recycled. Every one of them is still on the earth. SETHAARON's collection will put Oregon's historic bottle bill on the runway. The collection will present fashionable and sustainable designer apparel that is price, fashion and lifestyle conscious.
“Fashion is a statement about who we are,” said SETHAARON. “If what we wear is both fashionable and sustainable, we are making a statement that we care about ourselves and the world in which we live. If it is affordable, why would we not make that choice?”
Anna Cohen has been featured in Vogue, ELLE France, and WWD. Cohen is creative director for Imperial Yarn, a division of the Imperial Stock Ranch that will show its first in-house hand knitwear collection of patterns –THE IMPERIAL KNITS COLLECTION at Portland Fashion Week in partnership with Iberdrola Renewables. “The ability to make a sustainable choice is a beautiful empowering process,” said Cohen.
Cohen, Imperial Yarn, and EARTHTEC will come together at Portland Fashion Week. The collaboration will marry hand felted wool from Oregon's Imperial Stock Ranch, EARTHTEC's innovative fabrics made from recycled bottles and Cohen's impeccable and timeless design.
“EARTHTEC produces clothing with a conscience," said Dennis Randall, EARTHTEC CEO. “With sustainable EARTHTEC apparel, we are not only providing consumers with affordable and sustainable clothing for their active lifestyle, we are making an investment in ourselves and in the health of our planet.”
“Portland makes fashion relevant,” said Tito Chowdhury of Portland Fashion Week. “That is why relevant companies including INTEL, SolarWorld USA, Adidas, and Mitsubishi – with its all new 100 percent electric car – want to be a part of and are sponsoring Portland Fashion Week.”
