Behbud Association of Pakistan, a Non-Government Organization, has organized an exhibition of various apparels and accessories prepared by the home-based and rural artisans of Pakistan.
The expo, being held in Islamabad, is organized in view of the forthcoming Eid and winter season. It will go on till Eid-up-Adha.
The expo, showcasing a wide-range of embroidered fabrics and home textiles, has attracted visitors for Eid shopping. Also on display are several women and children related items such as handbags, garments, dresses and home furnishings.
Behbud Association functions with an aim to empower women and their societies by furthering facilities like education, health, vocational training and also means of livelihood.
Prior to the exhibition, the artisans were imparted training at the vocational centres so as to enable them to prepare items that well match the current fashion trend and thereby generate better returns by attracting good sales.
Vocational trainers get support from industrial homes throughout Pakistan, thereby enhancing livelihood prospects for low-income families by providing them employment in areas of garment manufacturing and traditional embroidery work, which are given a modern touch to upgrade them into present-day designs.
Behbud Association Vice President Abida Malik said the NGO has also established a `Shop for a cause' to help women from slum areas become self-reliant. It even makes other members of the community understand regarding gender and other social issues as well as the training provided by it in technical and marketing skills.
