The 22nd annual Bangladesh Apparel and Textile Exposition (BATEXPO 2011), which is set to begin in Dhaka from December 10 this year, is likely to draw higher number of overseas buyers as compared to past years, the event organizers said.

Siddiqur Rahman, acting President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), said Bangladesh mainly produces basic garment items which are more in demand, particularly during the times of recession, and hence the garment producers are expecting more overseas buyers to visit the expo this year.

During 2007-2008 recession, Bangladesh's garment item exports stood unaffected as global buyers continued buying basic apparels from the country.

Chief Coordinator of the event, Syed Nurul Islam, said all the stalls at the expo have already been booked and over 150 local as well foreign exhibitors are expected to showcase their products at the expo.
